CLINICAL & NUTRITIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

Dr. Amanda Baten, Ph.D

Dr. Amanda Baten is a  New York State-Licensed Clinical and Nutritional Psychologist.  A trained specialist in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, neuropsychology, and Nutritional psychology, she incorporates a holistic approach to health in her practice.

Clinical and Nutritional Psychology combines the science of advanced nutritional therapy and holistic health care, with the practical approach of Cognitive Behavioral Counseling and education to address the underlying causes of anxiety and depression.

At the center of this approach lie Amino Acid Therapy and nutritional counseling, two treatments that provide real alternatives to conventional medications that treat Depression and Anxiety.  Dr. Baten teaches people about health and nutrition and how this relates to mood, energy levels, sleep, behavior, and cognitive processing.  She coaches people around dietary choices and nutrition and supplements, and offers nutritionally based alternatives to medication in addition to Cognitive Behavioral approaches to diet and lifestyle changes.
In addition, Dr. Baten conducts Neuropsychological/Psychoeducational Testing for the evaluation of Attention Deficit Disorders (ADHD and ADD) and Learning Disabilities (LD) as well as a 12-week coaching program designed for the treatment of Attention Deficit Disorders.  She offers a comprehensive, multicomponent assessment including structured interview methods, psychological testing using empirically based neuropsychological testing measures, and a feedback/debriefing session for both children and adults.  Written reports are then generated for patient, physician, and school use.
Dr. Baten believes that the whole person: their physical health, emotional wellbeing, spirituality, career, relationships, and general life satisfaction need to be considered in reaching optimal mental health. She helps people learn to identify dysfunctional beliefs that lead to negative consequences in mood and behavior and stimulate emotional growth by teaching people to replace self-defeating thoughts, feelings, and actions with new and more effective ones.
