LONGEVITY + HEALTH

NEW YORK CITY

Everything but the kitchen sink. I had no idea that was what I was in for when I first went to Longevity + Health in the flatiron district, but now that I’ve gone back several times, I know, and honestly, am a little reluctant to share the secret. Dr. Steven Margolin has gathered a Noah’s ark of wellness practitioners to Longevity, and I’m spoiled for choice like a kid in a candy store trying to choose. There are nearly 30 team members, each with their own specialty covering a vast array of modalities, form massage and skin care to core training, nutrition, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, chiropractic care, laser, hypnosis, homeopathy, rolfing, and more. Morgan does the best laser hair removal bar none, in Manhattan, one of only a few that can work on all skin colors, while clients swear by Natalia’s facials at a fraction of the cost of many less experienced practitioners. I go whole hog and do a half- day wellness package ($350). First I do an hour of core fitness training with the most inspiring trainer I’ve met. Dr. Margolin’s partner, Rick Dinihanian, re-committed himself to fitness in his late 40s, and in his mid 50s was the oldest model to grace the cover and centerfold of Playgirl, and he brings that non- judgmental, it’s- never- too- late spirit into his training (as does everyone I meet at Longevity). After being thoroughly exhausted, I have a fantastic full- body massage from Ann. I’ve had lots of massages, but can count on one hand the really great ones…this was one of those. Ann is much more thorough and intuitive than most of her peers in the profession. Noah Rubenstein makes me feel like we’ve been buddies for years as he explains acupuncture and Chinese medicine before gently tapping in needles in several spots on my body. At the end of our session, I’m pretty blissed out from the whole extravaganza, but the acupuncture treatment, meant to address my lifelong insomnia, seems to work as I sleep like a baby that night. I’ve also had a pre- conceived notion- shattering chiropractic session with Dr. Margolin. His holistic wellness approach is reflected everywhere here, and is meant for every client to find the philosophies and practices that resonate with them, healing from within. Yes he gave my spine an adjustment, but more profound is the attitude adjustment he also provided. “You don’t have to feel bad to feel better,” says the doctor, and truly, that sums up everything. – Andrew Mersmann
